Question -

Critical temperature for carbon dioxide and methane are 31.1°C and -81.9°C respectively. Which of these has stronger intermolecular forces and why ?

Answer -

The values of critical temperatures suggest that the attractiveforces in the molecules of carbon dioxide are more. In fact, both are non-polargases but the van der Waals forces of attraction in carbon dioxide moleculesare more because of greater molecular size.
