Question -

If a2 + b2 + c2 – ab – bc – ca = 0, then
(a) a + b = c
(b) b + c = a
(c) c + a = b
(d) a = b = c



Answer -

a2 + b2 + c2 –ab – bc – ca = 0
2 {a2 + b2 + c2 – ab – be – ca)= 0 (Multiplying by 2)
 2a2 + 2b2 + 2c2– 2ab – 2bc – 2ca = 0
 a2 + b2 – 2ab + b2 + c2 –2bc + c2 + a2 – 2ca = 0
 (a – b)2 + (b – c)2 + (c – a)2 =0
(a – b)2 = 0, then a – b = 0
a = b
Similarly, (b – c)2 = 0, then
b-c = 0
b = c
and (c – a)2 = 0, then c-a = 0
c = a
a = b– c           (d)
