Question -

If f(x) = ax2 + bx + c has no real zeros and a + b + c< 0, then
(a) c = 0
(b) c > 0
(c) c < 0
(d) None of these

Answer -

(d)

 f(x) = ax2 + bx + c
Zeros are not real
b
2 – 4ac < 0 ….(i)
but a + b + c < 0
b < – (a + c)
Squaring both sides b
2 < (a + c)2
=> (a + c)
2 – 4ac < 0 {From (i)}
=> (a – c)
2 < 0
=> a – c < 0
=> a < c
