Question - 11 : - In the following sentence elaborate the parts given in bold. Under the circumstances it was a very unfortunate remark for the bird to make.

The little bird had gone to his father-in-law. In the meantime the Princess’s eight sisters insisted her that the bird should be kept in the golden cage. When the bird came back he said that “I very nearly didn’t come back tonight at all.” So, under these remarks, the bird should not have made this remark. It made the Princess to think that she should no more take any risk. So, she confined the bird to the cage. This remark turned to be unfortunate for the little bird.
Question - 12 : - (i) What did Princess September do to ensure the safety of her pet ?
(ii) How did the bird react to it?

(i) To ensure the safety of her pet little bird, Princess September put the bird in a golden cage. She told him that there was danger of cats to him at night.
(ii) The bird reacted to it very strongly. He did not want to be in cage at all. He wanted full freedom.
Question - 13 : - Why did the bird refuse to be taken out in her cage ?
Answer - 13 : -
The bird refused to be taken out in the cage. He did not want to be a prisonner in the cage. He wanted full freedom. The bird felt that the rice-fields, the lake and the willow trees look quite different when you see them from the cage.
Question - 14 : - (i) What persuaded Princess September to give the bird its freedom again ?
(ii) How did the bird react to it ?

(i) Princess September found the bird nearly dead in the next morning. While in cage, he had stopped taking anything. He had stopped singing at all. Compelled by the circumstances, she had to give the bird his freedom. That is why she let him go out of the cage.
(ii) The bird was overjoyed. He flew away to the far off lands promising that he would come lack. He also assured her that he would sing for her whenever she wanted.
Question - 15 : - Princess September kept her window open day and night.
(i) How did it help the bird ?
(ii) How did it help the Princess herself ?

(i) It helped the bird because he could enter Princess September’s room freely and go away as and when he wanted.
(ii) Keeping her window open day and night helped Princess September also. She grew beautiful because she could enjoy sunlight whenever she desired. So, she was married to the King of Cambodia in a royal manner.
Question - 16 : - The eight sisters kept their windows shut. How did it affect them ?
Answer - 16 : -
The eight sisters kept their windows shut off. So, they did not get the required fresh air and grew extremely ugly as well as disagreeable. Consequently, they were married off to the King’s Councillors in an ordinary manner.
