Question -

A 3.0 cm wire carrying a currentof 10 A is placed inside a solenoid perpendicular to its axis. The magneticfield inside the solenoid is given to be 0.27 T. What is the magnetic force onthe wire?

Answer -

Length of the wire,┬аl┬а=3 cm = 0.03 m

Current flowing in thewire,┬аI┬а= 10 A

Magnetic field,┬аB┬а=0.27 T

Angle between the current andmagnetic field,┬а╬╕┬а= 90┬░

Magnetic force exerted on thewire is given as:

F┬а=┬аBIlsin╬╕

= 0.27 ├Ч 10 ├Ч 0.03 sin90┬░

= 8.1 ├Ч 10тАУ2┬аN

Hence, the magnetic force on thewire is 8.1 ├Ч 10тАУ2┬аN. The direction of the force can beobtained from FlemingтАЩs left hand rule.
