Question -

For what value of k, is -2 a zero of the polynomial 3x2 + 4x + 2k ? [CBSE 2010]

Answer -

-2 is a zero of the polynomial
f(x) = 3x2 + 4x + 2k
f(-2) = 0
=> 3 (-2)2 + 4 (-2) + 2k = 0
=> 12 – 8 + 2k = 0
=> 4 + 2k = 0
=> 2k = -4
=> k = -2
