RD Chapter 2 Polynomials Ex 2.3 Solutions

Question - 11 : - What must be added to the polynomial f(x) = x4 + 2x3 – 2x2 + x – 1 so that the resulting polynomial is exactly divisible by x2 + 2x – 3 ?

Question - 12 : - What must be subtracted from the polynomial f(x) = x4 + 2x3 – 13x2 – 12x + 21 so that the resulting polynomial is exactly divisible by x3 – 4x + 3 ?

Answer - 12 : -


The resulting polynomial is exactly divisible by x2 – 4x + 3
Remainder = 0
=> 2x -3 – k = 0
=> k = 2x – 3
(2x – 3) must be subtracted

Question - 13 : - Given that √2 is a zero of the cubic polynomial 16x3 + √2x2 – 10x – 4√2 , find its other two zeroes. [NCERT Exemplar]
