Question -

In the figure, AB || CD and ∠1 and ∠2 are in the ratio 3 : 2. Determine all angles from 1 to 8.



Answer -

AB || CD and l is transversal ∠1 : ∠2 = 3 : 2
Let ∠1 = 3x
Then ∠2 = 2x
But ∠1 + ∠2 = 180° (Linear pair)
∴ 3x + 2x = 180° ⇒ 5x = 180°
⇒ x = = 36°
∴ ∠1 = 3x = 3 x 36° = 108°
∠2 = 2x = 2 x 36° = 72°
Now ∠1 = ∠3 and ∠2 = ∠4 (Vertically opposite angles)
∴ ∠3 = 108° and ∠4 = 72°
∠1 = ∠5 and ∠2 = ∠6 (Corresponding angles)
∴ ∠5 = 108°, ∠6 = 72°
Similarly, ∠4 = ∠8 and
∠3 = ∠7
∴ ∠8 = 72° and ∠7 = 108°
Hence, ∠1 = 108°, ∠2= 72°
∠3 = 108°, ∠4 = 72°
∠5 = 108°, ∠6 = 72°
∠7 = 108°, ∠8 = 12°
